Adolescence is a crucial stage in a person's life, characterized by significant changes in behaviors and influences, as well as in substance use. Various studies indicate that both boys and girls usually start using drugs around the age of 12 or 13. During this period, school plays a strategic role not only as an educational institution, but also as a social environment that brings together a vulnerable population prone to falling into vices and crimes.
It is estimated that more than 180 thousand people die each year due to drug use and that more than 39 million are addicted. People who seek treatment to free themselves from this addiction are few. Approximately 70 thousand people begin using marijuana annually in Peru. The IV National Survey of Drug Use in the General Population reveals that both men and women consume in large numbers. The figures show that, among men, consumption is approximately 60 thousand, while among women it is 10 thousand. In addition, 5 out of 10 marijuana and cocaine users show signs of dependence.
To address this problem and prevent students from getting close to drug use, training and tutoring activities for school principals were implemented, aimed at pedagogical action and values education, in order to counteract drug use and generate actions around this social scourge. The school must help create skills in students, impart knowledge and establish a foundation of solid values related to pedagogy and health. The implementation of such activities and their effects were evaluated and explained in this book.
