Synopsis

The complexity inherent in the management of higher education institutions today has highlighted the limitations of excessively rigid and bureaucratic traditional approaches. The incorporation of new technologies in the teaching-learning processes, the requirements of a highly qualified workforce in the context of the fourth industrial revolution, as well as the need to respond with agility to the changing demands and expectations of an increasingly student population. more heterogeneous, represent urgent challenges to rethink the way in which substantive activities are organized and managed in universities.
In particular, the process of programming and controlling the development of academic activities has shown severe weaknesses in the majority of Latin American universities, which still depend, to a large extent, on manual procedures, duplication of functions in different areas, poor integration of systems. of information and poor communication between the actors involved. This problem has a negative impact on the educational experience of students, as well as on the workload of teaching and administrative staff. Given this panorama, it is urgent that higher education institutions adopt more agile and efficient management modalities, focused on maximizing the value generated for users, who in this case are students. In this sense, this work proposes the application of the principles and practices of the Scrum methodology, which is based on transforming the way in which universities manage one of their core processes: academic programming and the control of their training activities.
